FAMILY OF POWER invited to the SMART CITY Round Table workshop titled “Carsharing: A Building Block of the Mobility Transition,” which was organized on June 6, 2024, by SMART CITY Salzburg in cooperation with SIR. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the expansion of individual carsharing initiatives into a citywide system. The more than 30 participants, representing all relevant mobility stakeholders in the city and state of Salzburg, worked through all relevant aspects under the moderation of Stefan Veigl (SN) as a prerequisite for re-establishing a comprehensive e-car-sharing service in the city of Salzburg by 2026.
The most important topics included:
Who needs to be involved in the decision to start a car-sharing program?
How do we develop a strategy, and who needs to be involved?
How are they working together to establish a comprehensive car-sharing system?
Gerd Ingo Janitschek, founder of FAMILY OF POWER, provided insights into the successful mobility hub model on Friedrich-Inhauser-Straße: “In addition to dozens of locations throughout Austria,FAMILY OF POWER alsoFAMILY OF POWER the two electric rental cars at the Friedrich-Inhauser-Straße housing project in Salzburg, as well as two e-car-sharing vehicles in partnership with the municipality of Anif. On Inhauser Street, 50 percent of users already come from outside the neighborhood. Furthermore, these cars are used much more efficiently on weekdays—with four hours of use during the day—than a private car.”
Katharina Mayer of Holding Graz, another keynote speaker, also emphasized this point: She heads the tim (“daily.intelligent.mobile”) project in Graz, which rents out over 80 electric cars across 31 locations and serves 6,600 customers with 40,000 bookings per year. In 2019, tim was also established in Linz (eleven locations).
The Salzburger Nachrichten has reported extensively on the workshop, both in print and online. You can read the full article at A New Start for Car Sharing in the City of Salzburg .
