GRID LEVELS AND ENERGY COMMUNITIES

Austria is one of the leading pioneers in Europe when it comes to promoting and expanding energy from renewable sources and renewable energy communities.

A renewable energy community may generate energy from renewable sources and may consume, store, or sell the energy it generates. (Section 79 of the Renewable Energy Expansion Act – EAG)

Grid operators are required to ensure that any eligible party (i.e., electricity customer) who meets the relevant requirements and requests access to the (electricity) grid (regulated grid access system) is connected to either a

 

  • Citizen Energy Community (BEG) pursuant to Section 16b of the 2010 Renewable Energy Act (ElWOG), or in a
  • Renewable Energy Community (EEG) pursuant to Section 16c of the ElWOG 2010, or in a
  • may participate in a community-based power generation facility (GEA) pursuant to Section 16a of the ElWOG 2010.
  • As a nonprofit, eco-social operator, FAMILY OF POWER combines the benefits of energy communities (BEG, EEG) and community-based power generation facilities (GEA).
